This one is for all my lady boss babes out there! I am sure we would all agree that being an entrepreneur can be such a rewarding journey for us but what a lot of us don’t talk about is just how lonely it can be.
If you are a woman entrepreneur then I know you totally get me on this!
No one really told me what that owning my own company would look and feel like when I started my own rental company. And even if they had told me, it wouldn’t have stopped me from moving forward on this entrepreneurial journey. But I really had no idea just how lonely it can be as a CEO.
As leaders of our companies we are expected to be extremely confident, in control and show no signs of weakness. This can be so hard to do on a normal day when things might be going fine but then throw in some unexpected curveballs and boy does it ever get hard! How do we as women remain confident and strong when we are constantly faced with uncertainties, challenges and risks? If this sounds a bit overwhelming, I can assure you that it is!
Not only can this be overwhelming, but it can be lonely too. We tend to isolate ourselves as if we are on our own little entrepreneurship island don’t we? We are so busy building our company and chasing after our goals that we neglect to take care of our own self. I know for myself I am always worried about my staff and how they are doing but who is there to worry about me and check to make sure that I am ok?
The short answer is that you have to do that! You need to take control and not allow yourself to stay on that island! Allow your family and trusted friends, mentors and advisors to help you and support you. They won’t know how you are feeling or that you need help unless you communicate that with them.
So if you’re not an entrepreneur are you ready to be one now?! I made it sound so glorious and rewarding talking about all this loneliness talk didn’t I?
Know that you’re not alone. You might feel like you’re all alone but you’re not! It’s not just you. Trust me, there are plenty of other boss babes that struggle with feeling lonely at the top too. Do yourself a favor and surround yourself with other entrepreneurs whether they are in the same industry or not and get comfortable with being real and vulnerable with them. Find a mentor or coach that you could talk to. Open up to your friends and family. It’s up to you to get off of that island of loneliness and to reach out to others who want to help and who understand.
And please know that I am always here to lend a listening ear. I know what it’s like and I care and I would love to be there for you!
Sending lots of love to my fellow boss babes out there! You got this!
